In mid-1979 Pelikan introduced the new Signum writing instruments whose design was influenced by the Ulm School of Design.
The Ulm School of Design (Hochschule für Gestaltung) was founded in 1953 as a successor to the Bauhaus, focusing on the functional design of everyday objects.
All models of the Signum series were slim models targeting an adult market. Each pen had a black grip section. The pens were offered in four unit types (P =) cartridge (K =) ballpoint pen, (D =) push pencils and (S =) system pens / felt tip pens.
